5 - 8  Days, walking in the Valley of the Tarn between St.Rome-de-Tarn and Brousse-le-Chateau. This part of the valley is called the Raspes du Tarn. Birdwatchers and lovers of quiet and unspoiled nature will enjoy this walks. The old medieval villages and towns on your way will add to your feeling connected with ancient times.

Walkers who like daily walks up to 24 km a day will enjoy this walk. You'll stay in * & ** budget and standard hotels.
You'll start and end in St.Affrique where Saturdays market is a nice meeting place for the locals. You'll stay one or two nights in Broquiès where you can (in July and August) make an easy canoetrip in light streaming Tarn river. The hotel has a fine pool.

• You can start your walk any day of the week between March 15th and October 15th.

Rambling on quiet footpaths is a memorable way of experiencing the divers French "campagne" (countryside). A land for bird- and plantlovers. The film 'Microcosmos' about the life of insects was shot here. The Museum Micropolis is not far away.
 

The hotel-keepers will pamper you with their outstanding cuisine!  No need to say you won't see anything like the crowded mediterranean coasts. Only quiet mountains up to 700m, brooks and small nice villages in a beautiful natural environment.

History

Many different cultures have made their mark on the area of Aveyron and the evidence of very early civilisations is shown in the stone monuments and rich architecture of the past, which include dolmens, menhirs, fortresses, fortified castles, abbeys, churches and in the rock worn out cart tracks.

The Romans were in Aveyron from 118BC. The road which linked Rodez and Millau was littered with villas and grand estates. It also connected to the Via Domitia, giving access to the whole Roman Empire. In fact Millau was one of the largest centres of pottery production in the Roman Empire.
