Raspes du TarnTarn vallei tussen Broquiès en Brousse-le-Château

St. Affrique → St.Rome de Tarn → Viala du Tarn → Ayssènes → Broquiès → Brousse-le-Château →  St. Affrique

In this part of the Tarn Valley you will enjoy the quiet, in hilly landscape, also called the avants-causses (the first limestone plateaus of the area) walking down the valley of chestnut woods.
In July and August you will be able to do a easy canoe trip in Broquiès where you'll have a swimming pool as well.
The hills are no higher than 700, elevation gains no more than 250m.

You walk past some old villages and towns such as Viala-du-Tarn, Montjaux and Brousse (8 to 9 days walking) with its 9th - 13th century castle is one of the "Plus beau villages de France".  St.Affrique is an nice town with a market  Saturday morning.
An easy hiking tour. You'll enjoy the quiet of the valley of the Tarn far away from daily hustle and bustle not to mention the Aveyronese menus.

History

Many different cultures have made their mark on the area of Aveyron and the evidence of very early civilisations is shown in the stone monuments and rich architecture of the past, which include dolmens, menhirs, fortresses, fortified castles, abbeys, churches and in the rock worn out cart tracks.

The Romans were in Aveyron from 118BC. The road which linked Rodez and Millau was littered with villas and grand estates.

It also connected to the Via Domitia, giving access to the whole Roman Empire. In fact Millau was one of the largest centres of pottery production in the Roman Empire.

Day distances 15 - 23 km (minimal), average 16 km.

Daily elevation gains: 100 - 300m.

Starting day: every day from March 15th - October 15th.
