More pictures,
descriptions and general tourist information on Gorges & Causses.
From Millau eastwards the Tarn river and its tributaries carved out 4 canyon
like Gorges: Gorges de la Dourbie, Gorges de la Jonte, Gorges du Trévezèl
and the most famous of all: the Gorges du Tarn.
These
Gorges are at the heart of the most spectacular walking area of the Grands
Causses Natural Parc. Steep crags of 400m and the typical scenery of limestone
plateaux dissected by rivers. You'll see the Grotte Rose of Dargilan,
the unusual scenery of the Causses (Le Chaos de Montpellier le Vieux and
Roques Altes). Your walk begins and ends in Millau or at Chateau de Creissels.
In Millau you can see the Millau Viaduct,
a French (construction), English (architect) and Dutch (technical design)
co-creation.

Parc
Naturel Régional des GRANDS CAUSSES
home base of La Ligne Verte.
If you want the charms of France and avoid
touristy bustle this region will assure you'll get it; it has been designated
a national parc and its riches are protected.
Here you'll find breathing space for taking your time far away from hustle
and bustle of modern day living while savouring the French cuisine and way
of life. Aveyron and Tarn give you a traditional welcome, amid beautiful
scenery, dramatic landscapes and picturesque villages. A land of stone,
a land of water: gorges, valleys, lakes, rivers all bathed in sunlight under
a radiant blue sky: the land would seem to have been created for out-door
pursuits and relaxation.

Close to Millau,
in center of Parc des Grands Causses, worlds highest (343m) viaduct is now
under construction to connect the Levezou plateau and the Causse du Larzac,
as part of highway A71 from Clermont Ferrand to Montpellier. Pictures of the viaduct
and the
Grands Causses scenery !
